What is an EV Battery?
An electric vehicle battery is a rechargeable battery used to power the electric motors of a battery or hybrid electric vehicle. They are typically lithium-ion batteries that are designed for high power-to-weight ratio and energy density
Why are they important to recycle?
EV batteries contain toxic materials such as lithium, cobalt and nickel. If left in landfills they can leak into the soil and groundwater, posing serious environmental hazards. If recycled properly, these toxic materials can be reused to manufacture new batteries, which also saves us from having to mine for new ones.
Why is recycling the key to sustainability?
Manufacturing EV batteries is an energy-intensive process that produces many greenhouse gas emissions. If they're not disposed of carefully, it can negate any positive environmental impact of driving an electric/hybrid vehicle.
